Health of Taiwan Farmhouse Tradition: 玄米茶

 不加茶葉的玄米茶是歷史悠久的台灣農村健康飲!

Not like Japanese rice tea, the history of brown rice tea in Taiwan goes back to more than 400 years ago. Farmhouses used to brew a hot pot of roasted brown rice without any tea leafs. After the heavy and hard working hours under the sunshine, farmers could relax and recover their body conditions soon after sipping cups of brown rice tea, or herbal tea (no tea leafs).

After harvest, the rice was processed into brown rice, which still keeps the most nutritious, including minerals, vitamins, dietary fibers, and essential amino acids. Additionally, it contains more bioactive components, such as ferulic acid, γ-oryzanol and gamma aminobutyric acid. Traditionally, women in the farm community then fried the brown rice without any additives into the healthy drink. As research findings (see References), brown rice promotes blood circulation and stimulate metabolism, also prevents hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

Gluten-free, no tea leafs, no additives, Taiwan rice tea presents a different tradition from Japanese style rice tea.
